Music director Emon gets bail in wife's dowry case

A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to music director Shawkat Ali Emon in a dowry-related case filed by his wife Ridita Reza under the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act.

His elder sister singer Abida Sultana confirmed the matter.

She said his brother was granted bail after his lawyer submitted a prayer to the court.  

Earlier on September 29, Metropolitan Magistrate Millat Hossain of Dhaka rejected the bail plea after Emon's lawyer moved the bail petition to the court.

The court also ordered to send Emon to jail.

Earlier on September 20 last, he was arrested from his Eskaton residence by Ramna police.

The case statement reads that Emon's wife Ridita Reza filed the case with the city's Ramna Police Station under the Woman and Child Repression Prevention Act on September 20 last. She brought the allegation of torture on her by Emon demanding Tk 10 lakh dowry.

Shawkat Ali Emon married Ridita Reza on February 27 last. It was his third marriage.

Following the divorce with the first wife actress Bijori Barkatullah, he married dancer Tithi Kabit on December 6 in 2012. He also got divorced with Tithi Kabir.

Following the divorce, Tithi Kabir filed a case with Ramna Police Station when Emon allegedly threatened her to upload her 'objectionable photos' on internet and demanding extortion from her.
