Habibur Rahman Habib, BNP backed-candidate for Pabna-4 constituency (Ishwardi-Atgharia), has demanded the cancellation of by-polls bringing allegation of irregularities.
He made the demand at a press conference held at his resident at Shahapur village in Ishwardi upazila at about 12:30pm.
Habibur said fair election has not been held though the Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda had assured a fair election in the constituency.
Fair election never be possible during Awami League's regime, he commented.
Terming the election as a staged drama, he demanded re-election for the constituency cancelling this one.
In the protest of irregularities in the election, he did not cast his vote and let the leaders and activists to cast theirs, said Habibur.
Among others, local leaders of the party were present at the press conference.
Former Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu, from Pabna-4 constituency, died on April 2 and the Election Commission declared the seat vacant.
The total number of voters in the constituency were 3,81,112. Of them, 1,91,697 were male voters while the rest 1,89,415 were female.
