A multimedia classroom titled 'AR Mallick Lecture Hall' was inaugurated on Thursday at History Department of Dhaka University (DU) after the name of Prof Azizur Rahman Mallick, (1918-1997), noted academic, diplomat and cabinet minister.
DU vice chancellor (VC) Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the modernised classroom at Arts Building of DU. Family of AR Mallick donated for modernization of the classroom.
"AR Mallick was a prominent historian, liberation war fighter and an ideal teacher. He was also former teacher and student of DU history dept family. Because of the patronization of his family, students will be highly benefited", said Sonia Nishat Amin, chairman of history dept of DU.
AR Mallick worked as finance minister in late 1974 and bravely handled the ministry. He was also a former VC of Chittagong University.
"In the War of Liberation, Mallick was one of the leading voices in the Bengali intellectual tent, desperate about reaching Bangladesh's message out to the wider world beyond the refugee camps and the fields of war," said the speakers at the programme.
