Today (August 2) is the 28th death anniversary of former President late Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury.
To mark the day, Quran khwani and milad mehfil will be arranged at Nagbari Jam'e Masjid in Tangail, said a press release.
Justice Chowdhury resigned from the post of DU VC in 1971 protesting against the killing of two students on the campus by the Pakistani occupation army.
After liberation, he was made the President of Bangladesh on January 12, 1972. On April 10, 1973, he was again elected the President of Bangladesh, and in December of the same year he resigned to become special envoy for external relations with the rank of a minister.
In 1985 Justice Chowdhury was unanimously elected Chairman of UN Human Rights Commission.
His family members requested all to pray for the salvation of the departed soul. Justice Abu Sayeed Chowdhury National Memorial Council will arrange a memorial meeting soon.
