
Erosion by the River Meghna in two unions under Raipura upazila of Narsingdi has rendered over 100 families homeless in last couple of days.
Around 100 bighas of arable lands have also goned into the river bed due to the erosion.
The affected villages are: Kalikapur, Imamdirkandi and Sodagorkandi under Chanpur union and Beer Char Modhua village under Char Modhua union.
Chanpur union chairman Momen sarkar said that affected people alleged that although the government distributed dry food among them, local administration is yet to extend its help towards the erosion-hit people.
Affected people are taking shelter in the safer places.
Local people blamed illegal sand lifting for the erosion.
UNO M Shafiqul Islam said necessary measures would be taken once the list of affected people reached.
He also said a proposal to build embankment in Char Modhua and Chanpur unions have been sent to the ECNEC.
