Inqilab editor Bahauddin sued under Digital Security Act

A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a case against the Daily Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin and a reporter under the Digital Security Act.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Soumitra Sarker filed the case today (Saturday) under the Sections 25, 29 and 31 of the Digital Security Act 2018 with the city's Gulshan police Station.

In his case, Barrister Soumitra Sarker has mentioned that the Daily Inqilab published a news report criticising the Bangladesh government, prime minister, administration, health sector and an adviser to the prime minister.

"It has tarnished their images and as a reader I have also been hurted," he said.

"So, I have decided to file the case against the Daily Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin and the reporter concerned under the Digital Security Act," he said.

Barrister Soumitra Sarker was a 26th batch student of the Faculty of Law of Dhaka University. He was the president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), Faculty of Law unit of Dhaka University.

Besides, he worked as a team member of Awami League Election Conducting Committee 2018.

He is also a life member of Bangladesh Ain Samity.

Gulshan Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Kamruzzaman said the case filed by Barrister Soumitra Sarker against the Daily Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin and a reporter under the Digital Security Act has been recorded. "Necessary steps would be taken after investigation," he said.

Earlier, an report was published in the Daily Inqilab under the headline "Remove HT Imam." In the report, comments were made involving Prime Minister adviser HT Imam and Kazi Shahid Islam Paplu MP of Laxmipur-2 constituency who was detained in Kuwait on charge of human trafficking.
