Former Islamic Foundation DG Shamim Afzal passes away

Former director general (DG) of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh Shamim Mohammad Afzal passed away on Thursday night. He was 65.

Shamim Mohammad Afzal had long been suffering from cancer.

He left behind his wife, a daughter, relatives, friends and well wishers to mourn his death.

He died at the Central Hospital in Dhaka at 10:20 pm while undergoing treatment there.

The Central Hospital authorities said the body of Shamim Mohammad Afzal was taken to his Mohammadpur residence at night.

It was learnt that Shamim Mohammad Afzal will be buried at his village home in Brahmanbaria district on Friday.

Former official of the BCS Judicial Cadre of 1983 batch, Shamim Mohammad Afzal served the Islamic Foundation as the director general for long 11 years. He also received contractual appointment twice.

Meanwhile, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq MP has expressed his profound shock at the death of Shamim Mohammad Afzal. 

He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family members of late Shamim Mohammad Afzal.
