Awami League leader and former health minister Mohammad Nasim, who tested positive for coronavirus and suffered a brain hemorrhage, is in a deep coma now at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital at Shyamoli in Dhaka.
Doctors at the hospital said ailing Mohammad Nasim has been under a 72-hour close observation, which will expire early Monday afternoon.
Before going into coma, Nasim was in critical condition and on ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
On June 1, Nasim was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital with coronavirus symptoms, including fever and cold.
He later tested positive for coronavirus and was rushed to surgery after suffering a brain haemorrhage early Friday morning. He underwent brain surgery at the hospital.
As Nasim's condition deteriorated following the brain surgery, a 13-member medical team, comprising leading neurologist, neurosurgery specialist, nephrologist, endocrinologist, internal medicine specialist, has been formed for his treatment.
Besides, doctors of Bangladesh Specialised Hospital, vice chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Kanak Kanti Barua, Director of Neurosciences Institute Din Mohammad, Cardiac specialist of Lab Aid Hospital Dr Sohrabuzzaman are in the medical team.
BSMMU vice-chancellor Professor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua said: "Mohammad Nasim has gone into deep coma. We can't say anything else unless 72 hours are not over."
Nasim is also a diabetes patient. He had a stroke earlier.
