Severe cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ has left its signs of destruction in Brguna district as about 10,000 houses were totally damaged by the storm.
“About dozens of villages including Patakata, Jangalia, Burirchar, Labangula, Maita, Naltona, Patarghata and Zinatala were submerged under fresh water by the storm. Besides, 10 shrimp and 121 fishing enclosures were also washed away causing a huge loss to common people,” said the district administration at a briefing on Thursday.
About 50 hectares of vegetable land, 300 hectares of crops and seven mango orchards were destroyed by the cyclone, the administration said.
Barguna district WDB executive engineer Md Kaisar Alam said the cyclone caused 10 to 11 feet high tidal waves which damaged 15 points of 13.57 kilometers of embankment and inundated several areas.
Baliatoli Union Parishad chairman Md Selim Shahnewaj said Md Shahhidul Islam, a hotel trader, was died from cardiac arrest on his way to cyclone shelter at 10.30pm on Wednesday.
Deputy commissioner Mostaeen Billah said they will begin rehabilitation process from Friday.
