Patuakhali: Cyclone Amphan kills two, 17 villages flooded as embankment collapses

Two persons died when cyclone Amphan hit them on Wednesday night.

The deceased were identified as Shah Alam Mir, Team Leader of CPP, of Dhanokhali union under Kalapara upazila and Rashed, a five-year-old boy of Panpatti union under Galachipa upazila.

Besides, at least 17 villages at Lalua, Char Anda in Rangabali and Chalitabunia areas in Kalapara upazila have been flooded when an embankment was collapsed here.

Besides, several thousands of trees have been uprooted in the district, while more than one thousand thatched houses have been flattened.

The district administration called upon the people to take shelters at the cyclone centres through loudspeakers even after Wednesday evening as the impact of cyclone Amphan continued.
