A group of drug addicts first decided to commit robbery to collect money for gambling.
Accordingly, they went to the house of an expatriate after midnight. Reaching the house, they demanded ransom of several lakhs taka from the expatriate's wife. Failing to get the money, they gangraped the expatriate's wife and his two daughters one after another.
After the gangrape, the rapists felt that victims had identified them. So, the culprits slit the throats of four inmates, including a dumb a boy, of the house.
The whole incident came to light after the RAB-1 personnel launched an investigation into the incident.
The RAB-1 members also arrested five people for their involvement in te murder of a mother and her three children at a flat at Abdar area under Sreepur upazila in Gazipur district recently.
Earlier, the Police Information Bureau (PBI) arrested one Parvez, 17, in connection with the gruesome murders.
The RAB-1 officials said the arrested persons confessed that they killed Malaysia expatriate Redwan Hossain Kajol's 45-year-old wife Smriti Fatema, his elder daughter Sabrina Sultana Noor, 16, younger daughter Hawrin Hawa, 12, and dumb son Fadil, 8.
The victims had been living at Joinabazar area after purchasing land and building a house two decades ago.
In a press release on Wednesday afternoon, the RAB-1 said they arrested five persons on charge of killing mother and her three children conducting drives at different parts of Sreepur till Wednesday morning.
The arrested were Kajim Uddin, 50, Bashir, 26, Hanif, 32, Helal, 30, and Elahi Mia, 35.
Acting on the confession of the arrested persons, the RAB-1 personnel later recovered the blood-stained clothes of the accused, cash Tk 30,000, a yellow-coloured hosiery, a jeans trousers, three lungis and a ring.
The arrested persons confessed about their involvement in the brutal murders of the mother and her three children.
Under the questioning of RAB-1 personnel, the arrested persons confessed that all of them are drug addicts. They have been involved in various criminal acts including stealing and mugging in the areas for a long time. They are all gamblers and used to commit gambling, and take drugs sitting adjacent to the victims' house regularly. They also used to harass the victims in various ways. Arrested Kajim's son Parvez was caught by the victim Smriti Fatema when he went into hiding under the bed inside the bedroom of the victim about one and a half month ago.
The arrested persons told RAB-1 that they learnt several days ago that Kajol had sent Tk 20-22 lakh from Malaysia through hundi. The arrested Kajim and Hanif had hatched a plan to commit robbery at Kajol's house about five to seven days ago. Later, they finalised the plan calling in other accused Bashir, Helal and Elahi. The gang also included Kajim's son Parvez. According to the plan, at about 12:30am on April 23 last, they had assembled behind Kajol's house. First, Parvez entered the house through a ventilator. Besides, Hanif got into the rooftop and entered the house opening the staircase cover. Later, a small gate at the rear side of the house was opened so that rest of the accused could enter the house.
The arrested persons further said three people including Kajim and Helal entered Fatema's bedroom first. At that time, Kajim brandished a sharp knife and asked Fatema to give back the money which was sent by Kajol from abroad. Fatema told them that she had no such a large amount in her possession. Afterward, Fatema brought out Tk 30,000 which was kept under a televison on the steel-made showcase. The culprits also took away the gold jewelries and at one stage, gangraped Fatema. Others also started committing their heinous acts entering other rooms of the house. Accused Bashir, Hanif and Elahi took away necklace from Kajol's daughter Sabrina Sultana Noor showing her sharp knives. They also gangraped the girl one after another.
At that time, the arrested Bashir gangraped Kajol's younger daughter Hawarin.
The accused Parvez also took part in the murder and rape.
The arrested said Fatema and her children were killed as they identified some of the accused.
On Monday, Gazipur PBI told at a press conference that the arrested 17-year-old Parvez had alone killed the mother and her three children.
