Ex-MP Khandaker Asaduzzaman passes away

Khandaker Asaduzzaman, the first finance secretary of Bangladesh, passed away on Saturday afternoon at the age of 87 at his residence in Dhaka.

He died at his Gulshan residence at 4:10pm.

Khandaker Asaduzzaman had long been suffering from various old-age complications including heart disease.

He was also the finance secretary of the Mujibnagar Government in 1971.

Later, the bureaucrat-turned politician was elected a member of the parliament from Tangail-2 constituency (Gopalpur-Bhuapur) three times on Awami League ticket.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury mourned the demise of Khandaker Asaduzzaman.

He left behind his wife, son Moshiuzzaman Romel, daughter Aparajita Huque, a member of parliament from Tangail reserved seat for women, relatives, friends and well wishers to mourn his death.

Khandaker Asaduzzaman is the father-in-law of Mozammel Babu, chairman of private news channel Ekattor TV and president of the Editors Guild.

According to the family sources, his first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Gulshan in the city Saturday night.

Asaduzzaman, also a former advisor to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, will be buried with state honor at his family graveyard at Naruchini village at Gopalpur upazila under Tangail district following his second namaz-e-janaza there.

Born on October 22 in 1935, Asaduzzaman was elected MP from Tangail-2 constituency for three times in 1996, 2008 and 2014.
