Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in a board meeting elected Eunusur Rahman as its new chairman on Monday. Rahman a former senior secretary at financial institutions' division in the ministry of finance was earlier elected as an independent director on the board and as per demutualization law the other board members unanimously elected him as chairman of the bourse. The new chairman has been elected on expiry of the tenure of its former chairman Dr Abul Hashem and other independent directors such as Siddiqur Rahman Miah, Monowara Hakim Ali, Waliul Islam, Dr M Kaykobad and Professor Dr Masudur Rahman. Earlier Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission or BSEC approved appointment of six independent directors including the newly elected chairman from a list provided by the DSE. The other five directors are Dhaka University's marketing department professor Masudur Rahman, FID additional secretary (PRL) Salma Nasreen, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry senior vice-president Muntakim Ashraf and former Bangladesh Bank economic adviser Habibullah Bahar. Eunusur Rahman was engaged as a part time employee designated as senior policy advisor at 'Business Finance for Poor in Bangladesh' project funded by UK based Department for International Development or DFID. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service administrative cadre in 1983 and served locally and centrally at the governments different ministries.
