Twenty eminent personalities and organisation have been nominated for Ekushey Padak, the country's second-highest civilian award, for the year 2020 in recognition of their contributions to various fields.
The Cultural Affairs Ministry announced the names of the recipients on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the Ekushey Padak to the awardees at a ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium.
Each recipient will get a gold medal, a certificate and a cheque for Tk 2 lakh.
The award recipients are: Aminul Islam Badsha (posthumous Language Movement),
Begum Dalia Nowshin, Shankar Roy and Mita Haque (music), Golam Mostafa Khan (dance), SM Mohsin (performing arts), Prof Dr Farida Zaman (fine arts).
Hazi Akhter Sarder (posthumous), Abdul Jabbar (posthumous) and Dr AAM Mesbahul Haque (posthumous) have been nominated for their roles in the Liberation War.
Journalist Zafar Wazed (Ali Wazed Zafar) for journalism and Dr Jahangir Alam, Hafez Qwari Syed Saifur Rahman Nizami Shah and Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (research), Dr Bikiran Prasad Barua (education), Prof Dr Shamsul Alam (economy), Sufi Mohammad Mizanur Rahman (social service), Dr Nurun Nabi, Sikder Aminul Haque (posthumous) and Begum Nazmun Nesa Piari (language and literature) and Prof Dr Sayeba Akhter (medical).
