Former Principal Secretary Md. Abdul Karim has been elected as the new Chairman of IPDC Finance Limited, the first private sector financial institution of Bangladesh established in 1981. "We are proud to have Md. Abdul Karim beside us in our journey of becoming the best financial brand in the country," IPDC Managing Director and CEO Mominul Islam said in a statement on the election. "I am honoured to have the opportunity to work for one of the fastest growing and strongest non-banking financial institutions in the country. In order to achieve the goal of being the best in the industry we will work relentlessly," the statement also quoted Md Abdul Karim as saying in his reaction. Prior to joining IPDC, Karim served twice as the Chairman of Green Delta Insurance Limited and a Senior Adviser of BRAC. He also served as the Managing Director of the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation. Earlier, he served as the Secretary to the Ministries of Commerce, Fisheries and Livestock, Home Affairs, Communications (Bridges Division) and Finance (Internal Resources Division) and former Chairman of Eastern Refinery Limited. Karim also served as the Economic/Commercial Counsellor of Bangladesh Embassy in Belgium. He was Chairman of the National Board of Revenue and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation. He was Chairperson of several national level committees of various ministries. Karim obtained M.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh and Master of Social Science degree in Development Administration from the University of Birmingham, UK. He is the Secretary General of the South East Asian Cooperation (SEACO) Foundation and a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) Rotarian. He is a member of the Honorary Advisory Board for developing the Country Programme Document (CPD) of UNDP Bangladesh. He lectured at various universities and training institutions as a guest speaker. Travelling more than 50 countries, he has also authored books and articles on the local government and other subjects. He has earned much laurels and feather in his cap leading several other university alumni , sports and scouts associations.
