Rain affects croplands, brickfields in districts

The farmers and brickfield owners are affected a lot due to incessant rain in several districts including Pirojpur and Tangail in recent days.
KAWKHALI, PIROJPUR: Rising apprehension is prevailing among Aman cultivators and vegetable growers in the upazila of the district.
The untimely rain has destroyed almost all ripen paddy fields and standing vegetable fields. Huge economic loss took place due to the calamity.
Brickfields also experienced damaging impact. 
Entire Kawkhali came under the impact of the incessant rain in the beginning of the month Poush.
It is the second-time, following the first one by Cyclone Bulbul, local sources said.
All winter crops were affected in their very budding age due to Bulbul and their growing petals, and leafs rendered abandoned.
Now the hit of untimely rain has caused a haemorrhaging damage.
Local sources confirmed many paddy fields got knee-deep water. The paddies piled on fields were also submerged.

Mainly, the small growers became heavily affected.
In addition, vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower, bean or red spinach and pumpkin, witnessed the same fate. Presently, genuine crises of these kitchen items were apprehended by the local people.
The consumers are now apprehending fresh price hike.
While talking to The Daily Observer, a number of victims complained they suffered a huge economic loss. All Robi crops were also affected, they informed.
MIRZAPUR, TANGAIL: Friday's raining made loss to over 80 brickfields in Mirezapur Upazila of the district.
Brick kilns sources said overcoming the losses would be a longer process.
Abdur Rahim, owner of ANB Bricks in Bahuria Union, said the rain on Friday destroyed three lakh bricks worth Tk 5-7 lakh.
Among others, Habib Bricks owner Abdus Sattar Sikdar and Kalam Bricks owner Abul Kalam Sikdar said each of them suffered Tk 7-10 lakh economic losses.
Abu Sayed Mia, owner of MAB Bricks in Gurail of Bhadgram Union, said about three lakh pieces of bricks have been destroyed.
Firoz Haider Khan, president of Tangail District and Mirzapur Upazila Brickfield Owners' Association, said raw bricks of maximum fields have been damaged. "It will take long time to recover the losses," he added.
