Indian foreign secy pays respect to Muazzem Ali

“He will be missed by all his friends in India,” Gokhale wrote in a condolence book opened at Bangladesh High Commission for the diplomatic community to pay last respect to the late envoy, said a Bangladesh HC, New Delhi press release, reports BSS.

Terming Ali as a friend of India, Gokhale said “(He was) a wonderful diplomat to work with and a fine human being.”
Gokhale further wrote: “We, in the Ministry of External Affairs, are deeply grieved at the demise of High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali. Our sincere condolences to his family and to all his colleagues in Bangladesh.”

The condolence book will remain open for three days until Thursday, January 2, on the second floor of the chancery, the release read.

Besides, the mission will hold a condolence meeting in remembrance of Syed Muazzem Ali at 4pm on Friday, January 3 at the chancery’s Maitree Hall.

Earlier, Indian external affairs minister Dr S. Jaishankar yesterday also expressed deep shock at the death of Syed Muazzem Ali.

“Deeply shocked to learn of the passing away of former High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali. He was a good friend and a strong partner for so many of us,” the Indian foreign minister twitted.

Syed Muazzem, 75, passed away on December 30 (Monday) at Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka due to old age complications, days after he left New Delhi ending his five year tenure in India.

Ali served as Bangladesh High Commissioner to India from September 2014 to November this year.
