The Jail Killing Day was observed in the country on Sunday, paying rich tribute to the four national leaders assassinated inside Dhaka Central Jail on November 3 in 1975. BARISHAL: To mark the day, Awami League (AL) and its front organisations organised different programmes. Leaders and workers of Barishal district and city units of AL wore black badges and placed wreaths on the portrait of Bangabandhu and four national leaders at 9am. Later, they held a meeting at Sadar Road party office with President of city AL Advocate Golam Abbas Chowdhury Dulal in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by General Secretary (GS) of district AL TM Yunus, Barishal City Corporation Mayor Serniabat Sadik Abdullah, and GS of city AL Advocate AKM Jahangir. BOGURA: To mark the day, district AL organised a discussion meeting at its office in the town in the morning with acting President of district AL Dr Mokbul Hossen in the chair. Among others, district AL GS Mojibor Rahman Maznu, Tofazzal Hossen Dulu, Advocate Abdul Matin, Abul Kalam Azad, Advocate Mokbul Hossen Mukul, Advocate Rezaul Karim Montu, Advocate Amanullah, Ragebul Ahsan Ripu, T Zaman Niketa, Manjurul Alam Mohan, Prodeep Kumar Roy, Asadur Rahman Dulu, Munsur Rahman Munnu, Advocate Zakir Hossen Nabab, Sultan Mahmud Khan Rony, Sherin Anwar Jarjis, Advocate Shafiqul Alam Akkas, Kamrunnahar Putul, Anisuzzaman Mintu, SM Ruhul Momin Tarik, ABM Jahurul Haque Bulbul, Mashrafi Hero, Alrazi Jewel, Tapan Chakraborty, Rafi Newaz Khan Robin, Abu Sufian Shafiq, Mahfuzul Islam Raz, Shahadat Hossen Shahin, Obaidul Hasan Bobby, Principal Khadiza Khatun Shefaly, Suraya Nigar Sultana Dorothy, Alamgir Badsha, Abdus Salam, Sazedur Rahman Shahin, Aminul Islam Dablu, Julfikar Rahman Shanta, Advocate Laijin Ara Lina, Dalia Nasrin Rikta, Naimur Razzak Titas, Asim Kumar Roy, and Rasheduzzaman Rajan also spoke in the meeting. Earlier, national and party flags were hoisted half-mast, and wreaths were placed on the portraits of Bangabandhu and four national leaders. DINAJPUR: To mark the day, a human chain led by district Swechchhasebak League President Abu Ibne Rajab and GS Zakaria Zakir was formed in front of Dinajpur Press Club in the morning.

Speakers in the human chain urged the government to bring back all the killers of the four national leaders and try them. They said the four national leaders were killed to make the country leaderless. KHULNA: Speakers at a function marking the day said Jail Killing Day is one the shameful days of the country and it was a planned and deep-rooted treason after the homicide of Bangabandhu to erase the country's name from the global map. They said the killers wanted to make AL a leader-less party by killing the four Liberation War heroes and national leaders at Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975, just 79 days after the homicide of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members. Khulna City and District units of AL and its front organisations, and different socio-cultural and professional organisations observed the day through different programmes. The day's programme began with the hoisting of national, party and black flags half-mast atop AL offices. Placing of wreaths at the portraits of four national leaders, wearing black badges, arranging milad mahfil, special prayers at mosques, temples, churches and pagodas and discussions were the main features of the day. Apart from this, various government, semi-government and autonomous organisations also placed wreaths. Marking the day, AL's city and district units organised a discussion meeting at the party office on Sunday. The party also arranged doa mahfil and destitute feeding in all wards of the city. President of City unit AL and Khulna City Corporation Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque chaired the meeting while President of district unit AL and Chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, General Secretary of city unit AL Mizanur Rahman Mizan, acting GS of district unit AL Advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikary and other front-ranking AL leaders spoke, among others. Khulna University, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, and various other educational and financial institutions also observed the day through separate programmes. KISHOREGANJ: To mark the day, district administration brought out a rally from Kishoreganj Old Stadium, and after parading the main roads of the town, it ended at Kishoreganj 250-Bed General Hospital. Later, a meeting was held on the hospital premises with DC Md Sarowar Murshed Chowdhury in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Police Super Md Mashrukur Rahman Khaled, BPM (Bar), Zila Parishad Chairman Md Zillur Rahman, District AL GS Advocate M A Afzal, its Joint Secretary Shah Azizul Hoque, Sadar Upazila AL President Advocate Md Ataur Rahman, Additional DC (General) Abdullah al Mashud, Kishoreganj Municipality Mayor Md Parvez Miah, District Mahila Awami League Joint Convener Bilkis Begum, and Kishoreganj Press Club Member Secretary Monowar Hossain Rony. MANIKGANJ: To mark the day, district AL organised a discussion meeting at its office in the morning with district AL President Golam Mohiuddin in the chair. Among others, district AL Vice Presidents Abdul Mazid Photo and ABM Helal Uddin, Joint Secretary Badrul Islam Bablu, Sultanul Azam Khan Apple, Organising Secretary Tayebur Rahman Tipu, Office Secretary Ehtesham Bhunu, Labour Affairs Secretary Liakat Ali Bhandari, and district Juba League Convener Abdur Razzak Raja and Joint Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Johnny also spoke in the meeting. Later, a rally was brought out in the town. SIRAJGANJ: To mark the day, district administration and Zila Shilpakala Academy jointly brought out a rally from DC office premises, and it paraded the main roads of the town. Later, a discussion meeting was held at Shaheed M Mansur Ali Auditorium where lawmaker of Sadar Constituency Dr Habibe Millat was chief guest while DC Dr Faruk Ahmed was in the chair. Among others, Principal of Sirajganj Government College Professor TM Sohel, Sirajganj Municipality Mayor Syed Abdur Rouf Mukta, President of Sirajganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Abu Yusuf Surja, former District Muktijoddha Commander Shafiqul Islam Shafi, and district AL Vice President KM Hossen Ali also spoke in the meeting.
