Science, technology university to be set up in Pirojpur

PIROJPUR, Sept 29: A specialised science and technology university is going to be established in the district town.
The university will be called Pirojpur Science and Technology University.
A letter in this connection was issued recently  by Joint Secretary of Education Ministry Sayed Ali Reza, and the letter was forwarded to the principal secretary of the Prime Minister's Office.  
In the letter, Secretary Sayed Ali Reza mentioned that there is no specialised university in adjacent districts including Jhalakati, Bagerhat and Barguna. Considering the circumstances, the government has taken the decision to establish the university.
Local lawmaker Public Works and Housing Minister SM Rezaul Karim said, With the set-up of the university, a new history is going to be written in the arena of science and technology in the coastal areas.
He was speaking as chief guest on  September 19 at a training of journalists on investigative reporting, which was organized by Press institute of Bangladesh.    
He further said Disadvantaged youths will be benefited by the university. To face the upcoming challenges in science and technology, a new generation will be developed.  So, unemployment will be reduced in the areas.  
While talking with The Daily Observer, Deputy Commissioner Abu Ali Md Shazzad Hossain said, "At least 100 acres of land are needed to build the varsity, and we are primarily working on that issue. Poverty in the district will be reduced after establishing the university because huge economic activities have to be done in the district and surrounding districts."
