CHAR FASSON, BHOLA, Sept 23: The students and the teachers of No. 62 Char Fasson Government Girls' Primary School, established in 1992 in Char Fasson Municipality of the district, are suffering for water-logging on the school ground.
Though it is an 'A' category school, it is plagued with various problems, including classroom shortage. As a result, it is impacting the students' academic life negatively.
After visiting the school, it is found that the school ground is full of trees and water. The students have to wade through water to reach the school veranda and the road. Besides water-logging, the playground is filled with garbage throughout the year.
The fifth graders of the school said, "We could never play on the ground since our admission to the school. We had to attend classes in one classroom for two academic sessions. We do not know whether we can see a new building during our academic life."
President of school managing committee and lecturer of Char Fasson Government College Shahnur Beauty said, "Children are being deprived from recreation due to the water-logging. We informed the matter to local public representatives and concerned authorities, but there is no solution. The local lawmaker has promised to allocate new building soon."
Fourth grader Mosleh Uddin said, "We cannot play because there is water in the field."
Assistant teacher Umme Salma said, "The school ground remains water-logged most of the year. Both the classrooms and the ground go under water after a scanty rainfall. Due to classroom crisis, we cannot take classes properly. Even after the monsoon, the ground does not dry up."
Assistant head teacher of adjacent Char Fasson Girls' Secondary School Abu Taher said the No. 62 Char Fasson Government Girls' Primary School is totally deprived.
However, local lawmaker Abdullah Al Islam Jacob filled up some parts of the ground with earth.
Head teacher of No. 62 Char Fasson Government Girls' Primary School Rokeya Begum said, "The ground remains water-logged always. The ground needs to be filled with sand. The school is being run with five female teachers. Though the quality of education is good, guardians are reluctant to enrol their children to the school on the pretext that there are classroom shortage and deluge on the playground. We have appealed to higher authority seeking solutions."
Upazila Primary Education Officer Trishit Kumar Chowdhury said new building is necessary to solve the classroom crisis.
While asked about the water-logged ground, he said the matter would be informed to the concerned authorities soon.
