Discussion meeting and special prayer programmes were held at Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) in Gazipur yesterday marking Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's 44th death anniversary and National Mourning Day in a befitting manner.
Abdul Mannan MP, member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Agriculture, was the chief guest at the discussion meeting while BRRI Director General Dr Md Shahjahan Kabir presided over. Discussants and special guests included Dr Md Aolad Hossain, former general secretary of the student union of Bangladesh Agricultural University and former APS to Prime Minister Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, BRRI Director (Administration and Common Service) Dr Md Ansar Ali and BRRI Director (Research) Dr Tamal Lata Aditya.
BRRI has been observing National Mourning Day since the beginning of the month with different events that included wearing black badges, hoisting of national flag, mourning meetings, rallies, souvenir publication, special prayers, reciting of holy Quran, discussions, drawing, writing and speech competitions, exhibition of related films and photographs as well as feeding the destitute. Different research division heads as well as the senior scientists and officials also attended at the event.
