
Last year Jaaz Multimedia declared that they are about to bring a film on famed spy of modern Bangla literature- Masud Rana. They also bought copyright for the first novel in the series 'Dhongsho Pahar' along with two others. Now a more elaborate picture of project has been revealed. Hollywood production house Silver line will produce the film along with Jaaz and three other production houses. Bangladeshi-born Hollywood director Asif Akbar will direct the film. Although names of the Bangladeshi cast members have not yet been revealed the film would have a host of expert crew members from Hollywood. The film would adapt the first novel 'Dhongsho Pahar' and would be named Masud Rana in Bangla and 'MR-9' in English. It would be released in both Bangla and English. Subtitles or dubbing in other languages would be added later.
Shooting of Masud Rana would take place on in Mauritius, Thailand and Bangladesh. Production budget has been estimated at ten million US dollars of forty-three crore Bangladeshi taka, the highest ever in the history of Bangladeshi cinema.
Asif Akbar directed Hollywood sci-fi film 'Astro' was released in 2018. This film garnered popularity for him in the west. He has also directed around sixteen productions including-three full-length films, short films, TV films and documentaries in his career that started in Hollywood in 2006 while also acting in nine films. Apart from him the team from Hollywood includes-Philip Tan, action director of films like-Inception, Transformer etc; Peter Field, director of photography for a number of Hollywood films including James Bond films among others. A former-spy of CIA will also be involved to bring a realistic look to the spy-Masud Rana, Shakib Shoukhin of Jaaz Multimedia has confirmed.
In the team of actors from Hollywood are-Mickey Rourke of Iron Man 2, Gabriella Wright of Transporter Refueled, Michael Pare, Daniel Bernhardt of Matrix Reloaded and the famed wrestler The Great Khali. A Bollywood actress is on cards to play the role of Sulta while more maybe added from Tollywood and other parts of the world.
Masud Rana is considered to be the prime figure in Bangladeshi thriller-fiction. The series by Qazi Anwar Hussain launched in the May of 1966 and in 2016 it crossed half-a-century. The first and only film on the character was made in 1974. Sohel Rana acted in the lead role in the film named Masud Rana. It was based on the novel 'Bishharan.'
