Stipend helps students continue study

RAJSHAHI, July 5: The students of primary, secondary and higher secondary levels in Bagha Upazila of the district are becoming more interested to study after getting stipend.
This project, taken by Prime Minister, is being successful. Getting economic benefit, the educational scope of the students is also expanding.
Upazila Primary and Secondary Education office and Social Service office sources said, a total of 14,814 students of 75 primary institutions, 5,102 students of 61 secondary and higher secondary institutions and 170 handicapped students are getting the stipend.
Rifa Tasfia Tahsin, a student of class eight of Arani Government Monomohini High School, said, "If the government would not give the stipend to us, our academic life would become uncertain."
Many parents could not make their children educated if the government would not give the stipend, said Sanjay Kumar Das, head teacher of the school.
Asad Ahmed, father of a handicapped college student Rocky Ahmed and resident of Gochor Village, said he was very much benefitted from the stipend, as he is a farmer and not economically solvent to bear his son's educational costs.
Rocky Ahmed dreams of making his career worth remembering, instead of considering himself as a burden to    society.
Rujdar Rahman, director of Thethulia School for Dumb and Deaf in Bausa Union, said the government's steps have benefitted them.
Upazila Primary Education Officer ABM Sanowar Hossen, Secondary Education Officer Arifur Rahman and Social Services Officer Abdul Hannan said many students are enjoying the fruit of the stipend programme.
Shahin Reza, upazila nirbahi officer, said students are getting chances to buy educational materials with the stipend money. Many poor students are getting curious to go to school nowadays.
