Korean painter Choi Sungsook is a narrator of the Eastern and Western dreams. Born in 1946 in the Japan-controlled Seoul, Choi is one of the few Asian female painters to experience the post-World War II and has developed a unique art style based on the traditional Korean painting techniques. Her unique style got attention of the art critics and art lovers in Europe and she received many positive reviews after holding solo and group shows at the Marziart International Gallery in Hamburg, Germany in 2017 and the Paris Bastille Art Fair in 2018. Last year she also held a solo show titled Distances L'Approchees in Luxemburg. A philanthropist, Choi dedicated her life for the welfare of the people through social works and promoting the Asian values for seeking peace through paintings. Choi Sungsook studied art at the University of Gottingen in Germany in 1978 and subsequently at Academy Geurangsyomiel in France from 1979 to 1980. She returned to Korea permanently with her husband Moon Shin in 1980 and then settled in Masan, the southern port city of Korea in 1981. The couple worked together for developing art museums and patronizing art and artists of Korea and other countries. Death of her husband Shin in 1995) was a great shock to her life. But, the determined artist never derailed from her dreams. In 2003, Choi donated the Moonshin Art Museum in Masan to Changwon City authority. At present she teaches art at the Sookmyung Women's University Museum in Seoul. Paying tribute to the artist the Changwon City authority has organised a duet show of Moon Shin and Choi Sungsook at the Changwon City Masan Moonshin Art Museum. The show titled 'Moon Shin and Choi Sungsook Together for 40 Years: Art and Daily Life' ran from October 26 in last year to March 20, 2019.
