
The Unsung a short film by Ashraf Shishir is set to take part in the Short Film Corner in Cannes, France. The film promotion market would be organised from May 20 to 25. The corner is dedicated to rising and independent filmmakers allowing them to showcase their films before potential sponsors. The corner chiefly features a platform for Professional Meetups between aspiring filmmakers and established producers plus workshops, masterclasses, discussions on coproduction and festival strategy.
The Unsung is among 924 films from all over the world to be selected for the corner. The film is about the last days of Liberation War. Based on true events it shows allied forces thwarting attempts by Pakistani Military to move towards the capital city of Dhaka in the face of persistent attacks. Bangladeshi Freedom Fighters conducted the land offensives to flush out Pak soldiers from different parts of the country. And as the enemy resorted to cross the Hardinge Bridge allied military planes blew up one span of the bridge, halting their approach. A cartouche of the bomb is still available at Ishwardi Pakshi Railway Office.
The film has already been screened in fourteen international film festivals in US, UK, Russia, India, Colombia, Iran, Italy and Nigeria. About the film's selection in Cannes Short Film Corner, Ashraf Shishir said that he feels good now that a Bangladeshi film, especially one on the Liberation War has been selected in the corner, marking a simple attempt to distribute Bangladeshi films worldwide.
Actors of the film are Aranna Rana, Imran, Soma, Bannya, Sajeeb, Manik, Shuvo, Panna, Dwip, Rabbi, Sachchu, Alok, Al-Amin, Hasan, Raich and many more. Music has been directed by Rafayet Newaz while cinematography has been conducted by Nahid Babu with Sabbir Mahmud as editor.
