KISHOREGANJ, Apr 13: Bhairab Panaullarchar stands as a silent witness to Pakistani atrocities.
It is one of the places where Pakistani army killed many civilians on April 14, 1971.
On that day, Pakistani army picked up 500 innocent people from Chandiber, Bhairabpur, Jagannathpur, Kalipur, Gosamara, Jamalpur, Shibpur, Kristanagar, Shombhupur, Gazirtek and Kalikaprasad areas of Bhairab and gunned them down.
In another incident on August 20, 1971, Pakistani army picked up 22 people from Manikdee Mosque, took them near Bepary Bari, and tied them with rope. They killed some of them and stabbed some with bayonet.
Fortunately, Mannan, Nurul Haque and Golap Mia of Manikdee Village survived. Nurul Haque and Golap Miah still bear the testimony of bayonet injuries on their left chest.
On the other hand, Manikdee Mosque also remains as a witness of this brutal act.
After 49 years of independence, recently the Bangladesh government has taken steps to protect the martyred places and is also planning to build monument in memory of the departed souls. Besides this, International Crimes Tribunal is also planning to visit all such places to figure out the number of people killed during the Liberation War.
