BACHSAS held its thirty-ninth award night on April 5 at the newly constructed building of Film Archive in Agargaon in the city. The event saw the awarding of recipients for the previous five years. The awards were postponed from 2014-2018 due to internal complications. April 5 also saw the golden jubilee celebrations of the cine-journalists' association, regarded as the oldest reporters' body in the country. Information Minister Hasan Mahmud was present as chief guest at the event. At the event the Lifetime Achievement Award was delivered to actor-turned-director Alamgir. Marking the golden jubilee five key figures of the film industry were honoured with Emeritus Awards. The recipients are-Kohinoor Akhter Suchanda and Syed Hasan Imam for acting; Runa Laila for singing; Mirza Abdul Khalek for owning the century-old cinema-hall, Lion Cinema Hall in Islampur, Old Dhaka; Faridur Reza Sagar as producer for producing the most number of films. For 2018 the Best Film Award went to Debi, the first silver screen adaptation of Humayun Ahmed's fictional problem-solver-Misir Ali. The film also bagged Best Director Award, Best Supporting Actress Awards with debutants Anam Biswas and Shabnam Faria. Joya Ahsan who embarked as a producer for the first time through the film snatched the Best Actress Award for her role as the mystical Ranu in the film. Best Actor Award went to newcomer Siam Ahmed for Dohon. Misha Sawdagor got the Best Supporting Actor Award for his role in Jannat. Best Singer Male was Imran while Female was Akhi Alamgir. Beside for musical film Sharangshe Tumi, veteran singer Kumar Bishwajit got the Special Mention Award from the jury board for being the musician behind the film for the year 2016.
