Potters busy making Shakher Hari ahead of Pahela Baishakh

RAJSHAHI, Apr 7: Potters of the district are passing busy time making Shakher Hari ahead of Pahela Baishakh (Bangla New Year) festival in the district.
Family members of the craftsmen are also preparing different materials for Baishakhi festival.
The craftsmen are making the hari at Bagdhani Basantapur area in Paba Upazila of the district.
Sushanto Kumar Pal of the area made small horses in front of his house. Sanjay Kumar Pal, son of Sushanto, is also working with him. Other family members are also helping him.
To mark the Pahela Baishakh, some people are preparing soil, some are making different accessories while some are colouring different types of hand-made accessories.
Little members of the family are also taking part in colouring the accessories.
Sanjita Rani Pal, 10, is colouring Shakher Hari on her own choice. She is also colouring the hari by the direction of her parents.
Family sources said in the whole district, different types of goods are made to mark the Bangla New Year.
These goods are taken to different fairs in the country including the capital Dhaka.
Shakher Hari made in the district has a great reputation across the country. They alleged that their work is not evaluated properly.
About the preparation, Sanjay Kumar Pal said they are working in full swing. Due to rain, they are facing a little problem.
Mukti, wife of Sanjay, said besides managing the family, she colours the haris.
She said they started making various items a month before the Pahela Baishakh.
Artisan Sushanta Kumar Pal said the preparations for partaking in the Baishakhi fair in Dhaka are almost complete.
He said they are making at least 10 types of items this year. He hopes that if everything goes well, they will be benefitted.
