GOPALGANJ, Mar 4: Jowariya Rural Fair under Tungipara Upazila of the district retained its 200-year-old tradition on Saturday. This year the one-day traditional fair was held on Falgun 18 on the occasion of Shitala Puja. This fair creates a festive atmosphere. All essential items including fish, sweets, etc are available in the fair. On this day, women and their husbands come to their in-laws' houses from different villages. Son-in-laws of these areas buy fish, sweet, meat from the fair and visit their in-laws' houses. Thus, villagers remain busy hosting their daughters and son-in-laws. The specialty of the fair is that people will get sweets at Taka 10 to 500. Raj Bhog, Kola Bhog, Komola Bhog and many other types of big size sweets can be found in the fair. As a lot of people come to sell and buy local products, the fair remains crowded always. Visitors of the fair said, they heard about the fair for a long time. Some people came to this fair since their childhood. However, they mainly come to this village to eat different types of sweets. Fair Committee President Subash Chandra Kirtoniya and General Secretary Milton Roy said, this fair is being held for the last 200 years in Jowariya Village. On the occasion, daughters and son-in-laws come to visit here from all nearby villages. Due to this, there is a festive atmosphere in the area.
