NoFeL Sporting Club captain and former national striker Akbar Hossain Ridon had put an end to his football career on Monday in a match against Mohammedan Sporting Club in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League at the Shaheed Bhulu Stadium in Noakhali. On the day of his retirement, his club NoFeL had won the match against the Black and White outfits by 1-0 margin and dedicated the win to the colourful career of the experienced booter. Ismail netted the match winning goal in the 86th minute. Akbar Hossain Ridon said to the Daily Observer that father Abdul Akher Miah was his motivation to play football. After his father died at the age of 75 in the year 2017, the booter felt his interest in playing football in fading away. His elder brother Shahadat Hossain was another inspiration for him. He also died in the same year at the age of 47. Losing both the persons, Ridon decided to call an end to his career of 21 years. Ridon who actually worked behind forming the present team of NoFeL was intending to retire a few months back although the management requested him to do that playing a match of the premier League. While talking about his retirement, the former national booter said, "I could have played at least four to five years easily as my fitness is well. But I cannot set my mind on it anymore." "I am retiring as a footballer. But, I will not saying goodbye to football. You know that 'Once a sportsman always a sportsman'. I want to stay with football forever. I have already completed 'C' Coaching Course and 'C' Refreshing Coaching Course and now completing 'B' Licensing Course. Working with the NoFeL SC boys for a year and also coaching the Chittagong Division under-17 team," said Ridon. The local fans may see the experienced booter coaching different BPL or BCL teams in future.
