The three times champion Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club played a goalless draw with one time champion Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in the seventh round of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League on Sunday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
The rivalry between the two former champions ends in a draw as none of the rivals backed by Bashundhara Group succeed to score despite some futile attempts. The disappointing things in the match were Sheikh Jamal DC's excessive defensive mentally and Sheikh Russel KC's bad finishing.
The Russel boys put some unmentionable attempts in the first half while a 50-minute failure of them was so unpleasing for their fans. They may score the match winning goal that time if a header of Nigerian striker Raphael Odoyin Onwrebe was not bounced on the crosspiece. The foreigner was trying to hit the net with header on a cross of local striker Biplu Ahmed.
The Jamal boys, on the other hand, might have squandered their golden opportunity to win the match in the 79th minute. Their Gambian striker and skipper Solomon King Kanform fed his compatriot striker Sainey Bojang with a flying cross near the small box and Sainey brought it down with a header and took an uncalculated shot towards the goalmouth yet the ball was timely gripped by Sheikh Russel's vigilant custodian Ashraful Islam Rana in the air.
Before the match, the Russel boys were at the third place with 13 points and their challengers the Jamal boys were at the fifth place with 10 points.
After the draw match, the two collected one point each yet there were no changes in positions. If  the Russel boys could win the match on the day, they would top the table.
There are two matches of the league today (Monday). Club area team Arambagh Krira Sangha will meet newbie NoFeL Sporting Club in the first match at 3:00 pm at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh.
The traditional black and white outfits Mohammedan Sporting Club will engage with the port city team Chittagong Abahani in the Dhaka match at 4:00pm at the Bangabandhu National Stadium.
Chittagong Abahani has eight points and rival Mohammedan SC three in their collections. On the other hand, Arambagh got nine points and NoFeL SC only two points.
