Chit-chat with Aruna Biswas

Audience-admired Aruna Biswas is a Bangladeshi television, stage and film actress, who won many hearts by his splendid acting. She was hugely popular in the era of 80's and 90's when television drama and Bangla film was the only source of entertainment of Bangladeshi people. She created her own niche in the age of some vastly popular actress like Shabana, Bobita and others. Mainly she was known for her acting in the film before she appeared in television drama on regular basis but big screen gave her the initial identity and made her what she is now. She is also a television drama director.
Biswas is the daughter of Jatra activists Amalendu Biswas and Jyotsna Biswas. Aruna began her acting career through on BTV puja festivals drama as a Durga character.   
Her first work in the play 'Tin Paisar Pala' staged by Bahubachan and directed by Kamal Uddin Nilu in 1984.
Aruna was born in cultural and aristocrat family in Chittagong. She was born at a time when her mother was busy with stage show. Therefore it was often called she actually started acting even before she saw the light of the world.
 "My mother was busy with stage show in the whole night when I was in her womb. She felt pain during the stage show but continued her work before I was born early in the morning," said Aruna.
"So I actually began my career even before my mother gave the birth of me."
At the age of 3 or 4, she was admitted into Bharateswari Homes where she actually learnt the arts of acting.
"During my school life, I was always active in cultural event. My active presence was there firmly when there was any cultural activities because of the passion I had for this and still I have that passion."
She has already spent 32 years on stage, film and radio-did acting for mainstream media and alternative media. Now Aruna has the knack of doing some acting in historical and liberation war related subject.
"I have been here on stage, film and radio for the last 32 years. Now I want to work on some special category-be it in big screen or small screen. I want to work on some subject with the background with history, culture, literature and liberation war, where there will be good combination of senior and junior artists," she remarked.
Aruna Biswas currently is serving as the Chairman of the production house Jatravision.  As of 2006, Biswas acted in over 80 films and many dramas. There was also unknown number of stage shows.
However she was in Canada for six years. She has recently returned to the country with renewed confidence and plan which she wants to execute perfectly.
She directed her first TV serial Onnorokomer Lojja for Channel I.
Recently, she was selected as the member of newly formed sensor board. She said as a member of the sensor board she wants to play an important role in improving the condition of the country's film and make it more dynamic.  
"Justified agencies are badly needed in our media industry. I want to do more work and want to contribute for our industry. But I want a platform to organize and develop our industry and Jatra section because it's the place from where you can represent Bangladeshi cultural directly. Also I want to uproot the bad culture, vulgarism from the film which doesn't permit our culture," she pointed out.
She believes that big screen and small screen should play an important role in upholding our culture.
