A court in Gazipur on Thursday ordered to send 12 local BNP leaders and activists to jail in a case lodged for obstructing police to discharge their duties in 2014.
Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Shamima Khatun passed the order rejecting their bail prayers. The court also issued arrest warrant against another 24 BNP men in the same case.
Md Robiul Islam, inspector of Gazipur Court, said all the accused appeared in the court this morning seeking bail.
After hearing, the court kept the order pending for second session. Later in the afternoon, the court passed its order when only 12 accused were present on the dock.
Hasan Uddin Sarker, president of Gazipur city BNP, said all were on bail in the case until police submit charge sheet.
Police intentionally submitted the charge sheet ahead of the election around five years of filing of the case aiming to keep BNP leaders and activists behind the bar to refrain them from participating in the polls, he alleged.
