We lost another women icon

Bir Pratik Taramon Bibi was laid to rest on Saturday but left with a rich legacy which certainly would inspire the people in generation to generation.
 Half of the population of Bangladesh is women and she was the icon woman for all the women of Bangladesh specially for youth ladies. She was a freedom fighter who was ready to sacrifice her life for the country but eventually came out alive, as a winner.
Her loss is a big shock for the country as the Bangladeshi people lost one of the most inspirational ladies in the country.
Taramon Bibi Bir Protik was one of the two female freedom fighters in Bangladesh obtaining the Bir Protik award. She had engaged in direct combat during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 as a member of the Mukti Bahini (Liberation Army) which was a guerrilla force that fought against the Pakistan military.
Bibi was born in Shankar Madhabpur village, Kurigram District to Abdus Sobhan and Kulsum Bewa. She was hired by the Mukti Bahini as a help cook and clean the camp when she was 16.
In the guise of a mentally challenged woman, she would observe the positions of the Pakistani army in different areas of then Kurigram's Rowmari Police Station during the 1971 Liberation War. She would pass the information based on her observations to the freedom fighters for whom she worked as a cook in a camp.
Taramon Bibi, however, felt the need to do something more for her country. She soon took up arms and took part in several battles against the Pakistani forces for the sake of liberation
Havildar Muhit in infantry regiment of Sector 11 trained her on the usage of 303 British Rifle and submachine guns. She was in Sector 11 under the leadership of Sector commander Abu Taher.
After the war, she was awarded Bir Protik (Symbol of Valour) by Bangladesh Government in 1973.
Taramon Bibi died at her residence at Char Rajibpur Upazila, Kurigram, at 1:30am on  December 1. Her age was given as 62.
Taramon Bibi had been suffering from respiratory problems and diabetes for long and had taken treatments on several occasions in the last few years.
She left behind her husband, two children and a host of relatives and well-wishers.
One of the two gallantry award winning women freedom fighters, Taramon was laid to rest in her family graveyard at Kacharipara in Rajibpur with state honour.
