BOGURA, Nov 9: At least 100 per cent electricity has been ensured in seven upazilas out of 12 in the district, said sources at Northern Electricity Supply Company Ltd (NESCO).
Meanwhile, the Palli Bidyut Samity (PBS) under Rural Electrification Board (REB) has reached 100 per cent electricity to nine upazilas out of 12 in the district.
Under the current government's tenure in two recent terms, the number of consumers has increased and overall situation has improved with reduction in system loss.
Before 2009, electricity in rural areas was hardly possible when the town areas suffered for frequent load shedding. But, now electricity is not rare rather the villages are being illuminated with electric lights. The villagers are using various electric and electronic devices powered by electricity.
The picture of Bogura District town has changed a lot. The local factories don't have to suffer for frequent power outages. The number of electrified areas is more in Bogura than other parts of the country.
Executive Engineer of NESCO Bogura-3 Mahbubul Alam Chowdhury said, "We have been able to ensure 100 per cent electricity in most areas of the district. We are giving connections against applications within seven days. If we get any complaint, there is some delay."
Under Bogura PBS-1, 100 per cent power has been ensured in five upazilas- Nandigram, Sadar, Kahalu, Dupchanchia, and Adamdighi, said General Manager of the PBS Engineer Abdul Matin. Only five per cent electrification for the total achievement is left in Shibganj Upazila. Within the first week of next December, the upazila will be brought under full electrification.
He also said under PBS-1, there were 98,458 consumers from 1978 till 2008, but from 2009 till 2018, the number of consumers is 1,89,049. There were 40 per cent beneficiaries from 1978 till 2008, but from 2009 till 2018, the number is 92 per cent. The power sustainability of the PBS-1 is 104 megawatts. The sustainability in 30 years from 1978 till 2008 was 50 per cent and now it is 54 mw from 2009 till 2018. The system loss from 1978 till 2008 was 15 per cent, but it has stood at 10.5 per cent from 2009 till 2018. The power transmission line in 30 years was 3,016 kilometres but within only 10 years 1,771 km lines have been installed.
GM of PBS-2 Md Khalequzzaman said the number of consumers from 1978 till 2008 was 1,00,490, but from 2009 till 2018 it is 1,98,881. The beneficiaries were 37 per cent, but now it is 53 per cent. The power sustainability was 23 mw, but now it is 67 mw. The system loss has come down to 11 per cent from 15 per cent. The transmission line was 2,091 km, but now it is 2,951 km.
