Remembering Dinesh Chandra Sen

The 152nd birth anniversary of Dinesh Chandra Sen, the unparalleled guardian of Bengali folklore was celebrated at his maternal home in the village of Baghzuri in Manikganj yesterday. Dr Dinesh Chandra Sen is particularly known for publishing with Chandra Kumar De the "Mymensingh Gitika", a milestone in Bengali folklore compilation. The work is a collection of nearly 21 ballads. He was born on the 3rd of November in 1866 in a Vaidya-Brahmin family to Ishwar Chandra Sen and Rupalata Devi in what is presently part of modern Dhaka district. He was the founding faculty member and the Ramtanu Lahiri Research Fellow of the Department of Bengali Language and Literature of the University of Kolkata. He died in this city on November 20, 1939.
