Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Request (MLAR) to the US authority seeking information about the former Appellate Division judge Md Joynul Abedin, said ACC chairman Iqbal Mahmood.

“We have sent a Mutual Legal Assistance Request to the US authority concerned through the office of the attorney general as Joynul Abedin is now in the USA,” he told reporters at his office on Tuesday.

Mahmood said the commission did not get any information about the issue but there is a progress in the investigation, BSS reports.

The ACC chairman said the investigation officer can summon the former judge for interrogating over his alleged accumulation of illegal wealth. There is allegation of amassing wealth illegally and money laundering against Joynul Abedin.

On July 18 in 2010, the ACC served a notice to the former judge seeking his wealth statements.
