Durga Puja to be celebrated at 501 mandaps in M’ganj

MANIKGANJ, Oct 1: The preparation to celebrate Durga Puja, the largest festival of Hindu Community people, is going on in the district.
This year the puja will be held at 501 mandaps, which are 31 more than that of the last year, said President of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Advocate Asim Kumar Biswas.   
He also said the puja will be held at 27 mandaps in Manikganj Municipality, 77 mandaps in Sadar, 63 in Ghior, 48 in Daulatpur, 11 in Singair Municipality, 61 in Singair, 64 in Saturia, 63 in Harirampur, and 87 in Shibalaya upazilas.
ASP of District Special Branch Abdul Hamid Siddiqi said more police and Ansar members will be deployed in the mandaps this year. In the meantime, 1,000 extras Ansars have been sought, which is higher than last year's.
On the other hand, District Relief and Rehabilitation Department sources said the allocation for the mandaps has increased with the increase of mandaps. Each of the mandaps will get 500 kilograms of rice in this puja.
President of District Puja Udjapan Parishad Advocate Asim Kumar Biswas said the idols have not been decorated yet. Those will be decorated after two or three days.
