
A cultural programme was held at a programme titled "AGM, Reception and Scholarship-2018" organized by Magura Zila Samity, Dhaka (MZSD) at Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital's Kakrail area.
The programme was held in three phases - Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the samity; reception for delegates and distribution of students' scholarships and finally with a colourful cultural function.
At the first phase of the programme, Magura Zila Samity, Dhaka General Secretary Sharif Azizul Hasan Mohan presented his annual report in the AGM with President and Chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (Acting Secretary) Md Akram-Al-Hossain in the chair.
The samity's Treasurer Adv. Lutful Hakim Nawroz presented his annual report on the occasion.
At the second part of the programme, Minister for Primary and Mass Education Mostafizur Rahman Fizar, MP was present as the chief guest, while Lawmaker (Magura-1) Major General (Retd) ATM Abdul Wahab and Prime Minister's APS-2 Advocate Md Saifuzzaman Shikhor attended the function as special guests.
The recipients were Former Railway Secretary and Member of Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Md Abul Kalam Azad, Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Kazi Shafiqul Azam and Acting Secretary and Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) Chairman Md Akram-Al-Hossain with recent Women's Asia Cup winning team members Fahima Khatun and Shamima Sultana.
Appreciating the speeches of scholarship winning students, Minister Mostafizur Rahman said that the present government has achieved the 'Momentum' of development.
Magura district is a model of many things and the students of this district will surely go ahead, he noted.
General Wahab announced a donation of Tk 0.1 million (one lakh) as scholarship for students of the district studying in different universities and colleges of the country and appreciated the 17 scholarship winners for earning Tk 10,000 each.
He also declared that those who would achieve GPA 5 in SSC and HSC levels in future will also be given scholarships.
While responding to some demands of the speakers, Saifuzzaman Shikhor said the work of rail line in Magura is going on, and the construction work of Sheikh Kamal Technology University, PPP-based medical college, special economic zone (industrial park), BSCIC industrial city and other development works will begin soon in Magura.
After establishing a standard-level hotel in Magura, international cricket matches will also be held in the district town, he said.
As Magura is a safe place for investors, he invited all investors to invest in the district.
Organising Secretary of BCL Md Shawkatuzzaman Saikat, expatriate (USA) Md Abdur Rouf, Additional IGP (Retd) Miah Abul Hossain and Former General Secretary of Greater Jessore Samity Kazi Rafiqul Islam spoke, among others, on the occasion.
