BNP mayoral candidate Ariful Haque Chowdhury has demanded the cancellation of the ongoing Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) election, bringing allegations of vote rigging and other irregularities.

He made the demand to returning officer at Machhimpur election commission in the city on Monday afternoon.

Ariful said Chhatra League, Jubo League and Awami League men captured different polling centers, including Ambarkhana Government Primary School, MC College, Hatim Ali Government Primary School, Chandantula Government Primary Schools, and stuffed ballot boxes.

They committed these irregularities with the association of presiding officers. Law enforcers did not take any action, though the irregularities were conducted before them, Ariful alleged.

Questioned whether he will boycott the polls, he made it clear that he will participate in the election till the end.
