Sumaiya Shimu is one of the prominent artists of Bangladesh. She has acted in thousand  dramas and a very popular name since 1999.  She shares her words with Noushin Mouli Waresi, The Daily Observer

Tell us something about your upbringing...
My childhood was bliss. I was brought up in a cultural environment. All my family members and siblings were culture-enthusiast persons. I was surrounded by different cultural activities such as dancing, singing, acting etc. But my parents were very careful about our studies as well. There were equal emphases on academic studies and extracurricular activities.
Currently busy with...
Well, right now I am working on Eid-Ul-Adha drama scripts. I am just reviewing and selecting scripts to work on. I am also focusing on humanitarian works. I am a good-will ambassador of Relief Bangladesh.
Memorable moments...
I have many memorable moments. It is hard to pick one and talk about them. To summarize, I have visited many places of Bangladesh, even some remote areas as well. I was always bestowed with the love of my fans. Wherever I went, their love and affection have overwhelmed me. Those memories are achievements for me.  This is all I can say.
What would you have become if you were not an actor?
Before I decide my career path I stepped into media and become an actor. So I did not get chance to give a second thought on that issue.
You have portrayed different types of characters. Of them, do you have a favourite?
This is another difficult question for me. Well, throughout this career I have acted in enormous dramas. If I did not like any character how would I have acted? Actually I loved all of them and it is nearly impossible to choose one.
Favourite hobby...
Travelling is my most favourite hobby. I am also a movie lover so I have a huge collection of movies. I also like gardening. Once I was a bookworm person. However I do not get enough time for reading books nowadays. By the way I also love listening to music.
Favourite tourist destinations in Bangladesh...
Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati are my favourite places to visit.
Favourite genre of songs...
I like Jazz and soft melody music.
Definition of success
I do not consider myself as successful or unsuccessful. But I think that there are some rules one should follow to become successful. First rule is 'be focused'. You have to find out what is your focus. You must have passion for that particular work.  Second-most important point is 'honesty'. Whatever you do, always keep in mind that there should be integrity. Third point is-'Proof yourself not others'. Your satisfaction is the priority. Fourth point could be 'time management'. You have to balance your life. Last but not the least, 'hardwork' is very important. We all know that there is no substitute to hard work.
Inspiration
My family has been my biggest support always.  When I decided that I will choose acting as my career they had supported me.
Message for the newcomers
Whatever work you choose, you decide it from your heart. Always concentrate on present work. Be calculative while choosing any script. Remember, it is always better to work in quality productions. Be a good human first. Work harder and be patient. Love the people around and respect each other.
