Popular band icon Shafin Ahmed has now joined the Jatiya Party. Yesterday in the morning he officially joined the party band presenting the party chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad with flowers at the President Park in Baridhara. Masud Parvez Sohel Rana, another popular figure in the Bangladeshi cultural arena was present at the occasion. Sohel Rana also happens to be presidium member of Jatiya Party and president of the cultural body of the party. The revelation has been made through a press release issued by the party. At the occasion Ershad expressed his hopes that after the inclusion of Shafin Ahmed more cultural personalities would feel encouraged to join Jatiya Party. He also claimed that Jaiya Party is looking to enlist candidates for all the three hundred constituencies in the upcoming general election. Last year in February, Shafin Ahmed formally joined politics with NDM led by Bobby Hajjaj, a former advisor to Ershad.
Last December he also declared his decision to contest in the DNCC mayoral elections as an independent candidate though with backing from NDM.
Son of singer Feroza Begum and composer Kamal Das Gupta, Shafin made headlines last year by announcing to quit the phenomenal band Miles for financial disagreements and misuse of his songs by other band members. He soon revealed a copyright document outlining his sole claim on all the musical productions by Miles as all of these have been written, composed and sung by him.
