Rajshahi MPs facing rebellion over parliament election

Rebellion is surfacing in Rajshahi Awami League ahead of the national election as more than one leaders want party nomination opposing the current MPs in different constituencies.

Current MP of Rajshahi-1 constituency is Omar Faruk Chowdhury. He is the Rajshahi district Awami League President and was elected MP two times from Tanore-Godagari.

Seven local leaders-- former Additional IGP Matiur Rahman, Tanore Upazila Awami League President and Mundumala Municipality mayor Golam Rabbani, District Awami League Vice-President Badruzzaman Rabu Mia, Makbul Hossain, Publicity Secretary and mayor of Godagari Municipality Monirul Islam Babu, Godagari Upazila Parishad Chairman Senior Awami League leader Ataur Rahman and District Farmers League vice-president Advocate Abdul Wahab James, have been trying to replace Faruk Chowdhury.

Rajshahi-2 parliament seat was in possession of BNP. In 2008, 14-party alliance partner Workers Party got the seat. Awami League general secretary Dablu Sarkar wants to get nomination in this constituency. However, the nomination would go possibly to the current MP and Workers Party General Secretary Fazle Hossain Badshah.

Rajshahi-3 (Paba-Mohanpur) seat was created in 2008. At that time, the Awami League's former president, Meraaz Uddin Mollah, was elected MP in that constituency. But due to his various controversial activities, Rajshahi University former BCL General Secretary Ayen Uddin got party nomination in the 2014 election. For next term, district Awami League General Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad and district Farmers' League President Rabiul Alam Babu as well as Meraaj Mollah want to be nominated. They are regularly campaigning for Boat.

Rajshahi-4 seat is Bagmara upazila area. Enamul Haque has won the Awami League nomination in the last two parliamentary elections. Party leaders and workers also claimed him to be the strongest candidate for the next election. Bagmara Upazila Chairman Zakirul Islam Santu and the two-time Mayor of Taherpur Municipality Abul Kalam Azad also want to be nominated for the eleventh parliamentary elections.

Rajshahi-5 (Puthia-Durgapur) constituency MP is Kazi Abdul Wadud Dara. Former MP and district Awami League member Tajul Islam Mohammad Faruk, district Awami League vice-president Abdul Majid, organizing secretary Ahsanul Haque Masud, health affairs secretary Professor Munsur Rahman and Durgapur Upazila Awami League general secretary Tofazzal Hossain are also on the field and expect nomination for this seat.

Rajshahi-6 parliamentary seat consists of Charghat and Bagha upazila. BNP possessed the seat. State minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam was elected MP for the first time in 2008, and in the January 5, 2014 election also. District Awami League Joint General Secretary Advocate Laib Uddin Lablu, former MP Raihanul Haque, and former mayor of Bagha Municipality Akkas Ali are against him in the party. They also want nomination in this constituency.
