Dohon to be screened today marking Dolly Anwar’s birth anniversary

Today marks the seventieth birth anniversary of legendary actress and news editor Dolly Anwar. Moviyana Film Society will organise a commemorative programme today at 6pm at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. Dohon, one of the only two films in which Dolly Anwar acted, will be screened at the event. To discuss on her contributions Masihuddin Shaker would be present. Shaker directed Dolly's first film Surjo Dighal Bari. Alongside him Moinuddin Khaled, Mahmudul Hossain Dulal, Belayet Hossain Mamun, Hashem Sufi and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will also be present today.

Dolly Anwar was born on July 1 in 1948 to Mohammad Ibrahim and the famed educationist, writer Nilima Ibrahim. She acted for the first time on stage at the age of 13. At 16 she appeared in Munier Chowdhury's TV series 'Ektala Dotala'. In 1980 she made her silver screen debut with Surjo Dighal Bari. She appeared in her second and final film in 1986. The film Dohon was directed by Sheikh Niamat Ali. Afterwards she left acting to turn to publishing. She was the editor of the weekly Saatdin which was published from the late 80s to the early 90s.
