International Museum Day observed at Bangladesh National Museum

ICOM-Bangladesh National Committee in collaboration with Bangladesh National Museum has held a seminar on the theme Hyperconnected Museums: New Approaches, New Publics at the Cineplex of the National Museum on May 30 to celebrate the International Museum Day (IMD) 2018.   Every year since 1978 International Museum Day is organized worldwide on and around May 18. This day is an occasion to raise awareness about how important museums are in the development of a society.
Poet Quazi Rosy, Member of the National Parliament of Bangladesh, was present as Chief Guest in the event. Faizul Latif Chowdhury, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum, was special Guest whereas Jahangir Hussain, Chairperson of ICOM-Bangladesh National Committee, presided over the programme. Dr Swapan Kumar Biswas gave the welcome address in the event. Md. Serajul Islam, Deputy Keeper of Bangladesh National Museum presented a paper on the theme of IMD 2018.
Poet Quazi Rosy told in the seminar that like every museum of the world, Bangladesh National Museum along with other museums of Bangladesh should maintain the flow of building connections with the people and attract all the people to the museums to inform them of our glorious history and heritage. We have to sustain the activities and add more and more new activities to connect new public with the museums, and continue the initiatives of adding new technologies with the museum displays. Faizul Latif Chowdhury elaborately discussed the need and urgency of adding modern technologies with the museum activities and taking more innovative actions to reach out to more people.
Jahangir Hussain told that ICOM-Bangladesh National Committee in association with Bangladesh National Museum arranged the seminar in connection with the international activities to celebrate the International Museum Day 2018. "We are really grateful to the audience and distinguished guests to have the feeling for the museum activities," he added.
