Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) inaugurated a 3-day-long 119th birth anniversary of Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at the university premises on 9 May because of the holy month of Ramadan.
Prof Dr AHM Mustafizur Rahman, vice-chancellor of the university, along with guests, teachers, and officers launched the program through paying homage to the monument of national poet by placing wreaths.
At the inaugural ceremony, Emeritus Prof Dr Rafiqul Islam, researcher of Nazrul, was present as chief guest while vice-chancellor of the university chaired it.
The special guests of the programme were Hamida Ali, educationist, Ma Hamid, ex-general director of BTV, Prof Nazrul Islam, Prof Musharrat Shabnam, Tapon Kumer Sarker, president of Teachers' Association, while Dr Humayun Kabir, registrar (acting), delivered a greeting speech.
Presided over by Prof Dr Soumitra Shekhor, an international conference was also held at the university conference hall where 'Song of Nazrul in Bangladeshi film' and 'Jhilimili of Nazrul: Reality & Arrangement' was read.
Then 'Annual Handicraft -2018' was exhibited by the Department of Fine Arts. Songs and poems of Nazrul, dances, were performed by the Music and TPS Department that held at 'Gahi Symer Gaan' stage.
On the second day, international seminar named 'Individuality Novel of Kazi Nazrul Islam' by Associate Prof Monalisa Das of Kazi Nazrul university in West Bengal India was held while Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman of UGC, was present as chief guest, and the vice-chancellor of the university chaired it.
'Nazrul Art camp' was inaugurated by the Institute of Nazrul Studies & Fine Arts Dept. Fascinating cultural program was held by the Music Department while performance art 'Jat Bejat' was staged by the TPS Department at the same stage.
SM Hafizur Rahman, deputy director of VC office (Public relation), said in a press release that the last day of the program will be observed on 25 May because of the holy month of Ramadan. On that day, International seminar, discussion program, 'Nazrul University Award giving ceremony' would be held as well.
