Turkmenistan lifts Bangabandhu volleyball title

Players of Turkmenistan celebrating after clinching the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men's Central Zone International Volleyball Championship title beating Bangladesh in the final at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.  	photo: BVF High flying Turkmenistan lived to the top billing as they came from behind to shatter Bangladesh hopes as they beat them by 3-1 sets in the final of the Bangabandhu Asian Senior Men's Central Zone International Volleyball Championship held on Friday at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium at Mirpur.
Turkmenistan broke the jam packed partisan fan's heart as like a professional side hardly allowed Bangladesh to control.
Bangladesh played their best part of the match at the fag end of the first set as send the stand in fire with a 26-24 win. This was enough for visitors as the match progressed on, they looked technically and physically superior to win by 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17. Points.
Defending Champion Bangladesh made a bright start as despite trailing through the first they came back brilliantly to win the first by 26-24 points. Unbeaten Bangladesh failed to match the tall well built rival players. Visitors came back strongly to win the next three sets with superior display.
Both the teams came in the final with winning their respective all three matches in the tournament.
Nuryyev DIdar of Turkmenistan won the most valuable player award of the match while Bangladeshi players Sazibur Rahman and Masud Hossain won best blocker and best skipper award respectively.
Iskanderov Arslanbek and Amandurdyyev Dovrangeldi of Turkmenistan won best setter and best libero awards respectively.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader witnessed the match and gave awards among the winners.
Earlier, in the third place deciding game, Kyrgyzstan clinched a 3-0 set win over Nepal to secure the third place in the tournament.     -BSS
