RAJSHAHI, Apr 22: The 'Panihar Library', a 70-year old famous library in Godagari Upazila of the district, has got a new building.
Local lawmaker Omar Faruque Chowdhury built the new building after a long-standing demand of the library authorities.
In the library, thousands of books written by home and foreign writers were being destroyed as the library was too old and the tin-shed roof was leaked.
Library President Abdul Matin said the Panihar Library was established in 1945, and since then it got no donation from any government or non-government organisations. The wooden almirahs were being broken. The books were being damaged as water leaked through the tin-shed roof.
Following this, local people requested the local lawmaker to build a new building, and Godagari Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Ruhul Amin built the new building under the instruction of Omar Faruque Chowdhury, MP.
Abdul Matin also said this library has about 13,000 books. Different dignitaries including former minister Prabhash Lahiri, Dhiren Datta, Ainuddin Chowdhury, poets Jasim Uddin, Bande Ali Miah and Abdul Mannan and many others visited the library.
Godagari UP Chairman Ruhul Amin said the Panihar Library is a famous library in Rajshahi. It was going to be destroyed, but the MP gave special allotment for a new building. The construction work of the building has already been completed.
