The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating an allegation of Tk 5 crore additional spending by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC).
A letter has been sent to RCC asking to submit tender documents, a source at RCC confirmed the matter.
Rajshahi ACC director Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan said the matter is being investigated.
According to RCC sources, tender was invited for the construction of roads and drains under the project titled 'Development of various important roads of Rajshahi city' in 30 wards of the city.
Tender was called on December 27. The last date for submitting the tender was January 25. In two groups, five tenders were submitted. The lowest bidder was a company called 'Cell UDC JV'.
The second lowest bid was 'RAB RC Private Limited Rajshahi'. But none of them were given the tender. The work was given to the high bidder ‘Mir Akhtar’. As a result, RCC will have to pay at least five crore taka more.
RCC sources also said the lowest bidder contractors complained to the ACC about the matter. Then the ACC started investigation. RCC will send tender documents to the ACC in two or one days.
RCC’s chief engineer Ashraful Haque said, “I do not agree with the comment on the ACC investigation. There is no irregularity in the tender. High bidder Mir Akhtar has been given the job for better work. There was some shortage of experience of the lower bidders. So they were not given the work."
