Jabbarer Boli Khela, Baishakhi Mela Apr 25

CHITTAGONG, Apr 21: Jabbarer Boli Khela, a century old traditional form of wrestling in Bangladesh, and Baishakhi Mela will be started in the Port City from April 25 (Wednesday). 'Abdul Jabbar Smriti Kusti Portijogita O Baishakhi Mela Committee' is arranging the event.  
Thousands of people will attend the events. The fair, which extends to a perimeter of three kilometres surrounding Laldighir Moydan, is the largest of its kind in Chittagong. Boli Khela, traditionally the main attraction of the initiative, will begin from April 25, Baishakh 12, on the Laldighir Moydan.
This year, around 200 bolies (wrestlers) will participate in Jabbarer Boli Khela. Thousands of people from around the country will attend the historic tournament.
Jabbarer Bolikhela was introduced in 1909 by Abdul Jabbar Saodagar. His desire was to prepare the then youths to fight against British colonialism without any weapon. This is one of the oldest traditions of Chittagong being held in the first month of Bangla Year on the Laldighi Moydan.
